The Chicago White Sox have disappointed this season and Jeff Samardzija is expected to be discussed in trades this summer.

The Boston Red Sox inquired about Josh Donaldson before signing Pablo Sandoval last offseason, according to the Boston Herald.

The Oakland Athletics, who eventually traded Donaldson to the Toronto Blue Jays, told the Red Sox that Donaldson wasn't available.

Boston went on to sign Sandoval for five years and $95 million.

Billy Beane hasn't decided what approach the Oakland Athletics will take to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Oakland is 10 games out in the American League West and more than eight games back in the Wild Card race.

"Time will tell, it's an important time period," Beane said "Despite having played better in the last couple weeks, we're still in quite a hole. Any definitive direction would be decided by how we do moving forward."

Scott Kazmir, Tyler Clippard and Ben Zobrist are rumored trade chips.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have interest in Jon Niese, but they haven't had any discussions with the New York Mets.

It was reported over the weekend that the Chicago Cubs also have an eye on the left-hander.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be active on the pitching market, according to Alex Anthopoulos.

"We still need to make upgrades in the rotation and the bullpen, that goes without saying," Anthopoulos said. "I'd love to land both. What we come away with or don't come away with, I have no idea. Clearly we're looking to be active. We're looking to add and make the club a lot better."

The Los Angeles Angels are in the market for a hitter and have inquired about several players with other teams, according to a report.

The best fit would be a left-handed hitter with a good on-base percentage and who has the ability to play left field or designated hitter.

There have been reports that the Milwaukee Brewers have told teams they won't trade Jean Segura, but that isn't the case.

They won't rush to move Segura, but shortstop is a position of strength within the Milwaukee organization.

Orlando Arcia destined to be the starter in the not-so-distant future.

Segura has three more years -- all in arbitration -- before he can be a free agent, so the Brewers could ask for a lot in return.

The New York Mets and Oakland Athletics have discussed a trade involved Ben Zobrist, according to sources on both sides.

Zobrist can become a free agent after the season, but there is no indication that Oakland is close to a trade.

The San Francisco Giants have added an outfielder to their list of trade targets in the wake of Nori Aoki's injury.

Nothing is close, but they have recalled Travis Ishikawa to take Aoki's roster spot for now.

The Boston Red Sox have shown interest in trading Clay Buchholz, according to sources.

The non-waiver trade deadline is a little more than a month away and Boston is 9 1/2 games out of first place in the American League East.

Buchholz has pitched well as of late, which has increased his value. His contract also allows for team options in 2016 ($13 million) and 2017 ($13.5 million).

As far as the right-hander is concerned, he will remain with the Red Sox.

"Yeah, unless something crazy happens I expect to be here," he said. "I've always called this place home. [Trades] happen, and it's happened to a lot of guys, where they walk in and they're told their somewhere. That's the business part of it and I think everybody understands that.

"I would love to be here throughout the next couple of years and everything goes well sign another extension. That's sort of how I look at it."
